Lodging the Notice of Intended Marriage   By Trudy McGee

I’ve talked before about the legal requirements about getting married in Australia but I want to clear up a common misconception about the first piece of paperwork we as Celebrants complete:     the Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM).
When I talk about “lodging” the NOIM, I mean lodging it with me as your “Authorised”  Celebrant. Through lodging the NOIM with me, you are giving notice to the Australian Government (through me as the Government’s “Authorized” representative) that you intend to get married in at least one month and one day,   and no more than 18 months from the date of lodgement – “lodgement” with the celebrant, that is.
The words “lodging” or “lodgement” seem to confuse people: they simply mean giving your signed NOIM to your celebrant or priest.
I do not send the NOIM to anyone else (or “lodge” it with anyone else) until AFTER your wedding, at which time I send it to Births, Deaths and Marriages along with your Declaration of No Legal Impediment and your Official Certificate of Marriage signed at the ceremony, so that your marriage can be registered.
The same goes for any other authorised celebrant (including religious celebrants); none of us send your NOIM to anyone before the wedding.

So the next time someone tells you their celebrant (or priest etc) lodged their NOIM before the wedding, you can tell them how it really works!

Tips for Theming: from Trudy McGee Sunshine Coast Celebrant

When people fantasise about their wedding, it isn’t only the location or their outfit they picture, they imagine how their wedding will look to others. It is easy if you have the funds to hire a professional wedding stylist, but what if your budget is a little less generous? Here is how to have amazing wedding table decorations that will impress your guests and give you the atmosphere you crave, without spending a fortune or running yourself ragged making them.
2015 Trends
One of the hottest wedding d├ęcor trends for 2015 is hanging d├ęcor, especially the pomander ball or paper pom-pom. They look fantastic attached to tall narrow glass vases or candlesticks as part of a wedding table centrepiece. These fluffy flower balls are lightweight, inexpensive, recyclable, and can be made in a matter of minutes. Tissue paper is a fantastic way to get enormous bang for your buck, as it comes in a rainbow of colours and patterns, and is very cheap. You will find heaps of paper pom-pom tutorial videos on YouTube. Make them small and hang on the back of chairs, or fix them to the ceiling or trees to give the impression of colourful paper chandeliers.
Mismatched Magic
Your wedding table decorations don’t have to be matching to be stylish. The country chic look is still fashionable, and simple to achieve by using mismatched items which coordinate. For example: mismatched glasses that are all clear, silver cutlery from odd sets, or empty bottles painted in complementary colours. Raid your mum’s linen cupboard, borrow your grandmother’s vases, and visit charity shops to source items cheaply.

DIY painted bottles are inexpensive and simple.  Get in touch with a reputable d├ęcor hire firm if you are after a dramatic look. You’ll be amazed at the props available, from enormous urns, to lights, mirrors, and even furniture. Whether you are searching for items to transform your reception venue into a winter palace, or simply after a few props to decorate your wedding ceremony location, professional d├ęcor hire could be just what you are looking for.

Other wedding table decoration ideas include theming each table based on something that is important to you. This is an effective way of decorating a lot of tables without needing to buy a lot. One of the best DIY weddings we have seen recently featured tables named and decorated after a different location, each of which was significant to the couple. They were able to incorporate their own photos and souvenirs into the table decoration, with the top table having a Paris theme, to match their honeymoon destination.

To successfully decorate your wedding venue, the key is planning. Don’t rush out and buy something on a whim, take time to devise a decoration scheme and work out what you want  :)

Sunshine Coast Celebrant Trudy McGee at Shelly Beach Caloundra

Our Groom was emotional when he saw his beautiful Bride arrive and gave a sigh of relief when he got through the Ceremony without shedding, well too many tears.  Their wedding day was one they planned and worked hard for - flying all the way over from Germany to marry at Sunset on Shelly Beach Caloundra and guests coming from around Australia and the world to attend.  Loved the personal touch with the M & Ms  :)
